Remember the Waypoints Thing?

For awhile last fall I did a series of blog posts called ‘waypoints’ that were intended to highlight various blogs/discussions/sites/products that have had a big impact on my roleplaying and my approach to thinking about roleplaying. Well, over the past few days, I’ve flagged several items that I want to turn into posts here on the Monkey – they’re currently sitting in my drafts folder waiting to be fleshed out and published. And I’ve noticed that most of them fit really well under the premise of the original waypoints posts.

Also, I’ve had some discussions with some of my friends about the value of the On My Radar (OMR) items I have been posting. The gist of my friends’ opinions is that it is all well and good to share such things, but that the posts would be a lot more interesting and valuable to readers if I also share what I think about the things I share, rather than just offering links to interesting stuff I run across. (if you’re following Canon Puncture, you might be seeing a similar concept develop over there with the podcast). In that sense, such posts will become more like a jumping-off point and/or an inspiration for me to share my thoughts on something. And it occurred to me that in many ways, that is also very similar to the premise of the original waypoints posts.

So, I’m going to take the logical next-step and from here on, items that have in the past fallen under the ‘On My Radar’ category are now going to be categorized as waypoints. When you see [Waypoints] in the post title, you can expect it will be a post wherin I share my own thoughts about a given aspect of roleplaying gaming along with at least one external source of information or inspiration related to that aspect.

Barring unforseen delays in my personal life, the journey begins anew tomorrow, with a post focused on what I actually mean when I say “I prefer story games” or “I like my play to be focused on ‘story’”.

Stay tuned.
